| DNA Haplogroups | Y-DNA contains genetic markers which allow all humans living today to be classified into ancient family groups called "haplogroups". An individual's STR marker results can be used to predict his haplogroup. The prediction is made by comparing the STR marker profile to all other individuals in the database who have tested their STR markers and also confirmed their haplogroup through SNP testing. The only way to confirm an individual's haplogroup is through additional SNP testing. |
| DNA Reunion |
STR markers mutate quite rapidly, making them excellent markers for finding relatives "genetic cousins" on the paternal line. Individuals who share the same paternal lineage will have very closely matching Y-DNA STR markers.
